Cape Spencer | End of an Era
Since the trail's inception as a result of gold mining in the 1980's, Cape Spencer has become a very popular destination for off-road enthusiasts. Now a new mining company has set its sights on the Cape and have begun bulldozing the former trail to bring in mining equipment and work trucks. At this stage, only the first half of the trail has been affected but the markers are everywhere and the map says it all. With over 1.7 million tons of gold to extract, one can only speculate to the extend of impact that will have on this magnificent area. For now, access is still unrestricted, but who knows how much longer that will be the case.

Maybe future generations will get a whole new trail network out of this once the operations have seized, one can hope that the extend of the destruction won't be too catastrophic.
